Nopal Cactus (Prickly Pear) Contains Threonine (Essential Amino Acid)

(*) See References and Disclaimer at the bottom of the page.

Nopal cactus (prickly pear) contains threonine which is essential in the body's formation of tooth enamel, collagen, and elastin(1*). It also aids in the muscle tissue and liver's glycogen storing - glucose (sugar) that converts to energy(2*) and helps the body's immune system by producing antibodies and immunoglobulins(3*).

Threonine hinders the build-up of fat in the liver and assists in the liver's lipotropic function if partnered with methionine and aspartic acid(4*). Threonine also helps the intestinal and digestive tracts to function effectively(5*) and assists the body in maintaining proper protein balance(6*). Threonine, which is a precursor of serine and glycine, is found in large quantities in the skeletal structure, central nervous system and the heart(7*).
